Vancouver's Source for Natural Comfort Toppers
Every topper we make starts with a single piece of natural or organic latex, cut to size and finished in an organic cotton cover. No poly foam, no synthetic fillers, no metal. We build them in our Metro Vancouver factory by hand, the same way we have built our mattresses since 1985.
There are two latex types in the range: Organic Dunlop and Talalay. They behave differently and suit different sleepers, so it is worth understanding what sets them apart before choosing.
Organic Dunlop Toppers
Dunlop is the original latex manufacturing process. Liquid rubber is poured into a mould, baked, and set in a single stage. The result is a denser, more supportive material that holds its shape well over time. Dunlop is the only latex process with commercially available organic certification: our Dunlop toppers are certified by GOLS, Eco-Institut, and Oeko-Tex, and the latex itself contains no synthetic content.
The Organic Dunlop toppers come in 2" and 3" thicknesses, with three firmness options each: Soft, Medium, and Firm. Soft suits side and back sleepers who want pressure relief at the hips and shoulders. Medium is a good fit for back and combination sleepers who need a bit of give without losing support. Firm is for stomach sleepers and back sleepers whose mattress has softened and needs more resistance restored.
The 3" Dunlop topper is the best-value option in the Dunlop line. More latex per dollar, and a more significant change to the feel of your existing mattress. If your mattress is quite firm or has compressed noticeably, the 3" is worth the step up.
Talalay Toppers
Talalay latex goes through an additional processing step after pouring: the mould is vacuum-sealed and flash-frozen before curing. That process creates a more open cell structure, which gives Talalay a lighter, more buoyant feel than Dunlop. Side and back sleepers who want a softer, springier surface typically prefer it.
We carry two Talalay options: Original Talalay and Natural Talalay. The difference is in latex composition. Natural Talalay contains no synthetic latex. Original Talalay includes a synthetic component in its blend, which affects the feel slightly but does not affect the Oeko-Tex certification either product carries. Neither Talalay option is GOLS certified. All Talalay toppers come in Soft only and are available in 2" and 3".
The 3" Talalay is for side and back sleepers who want the most cushioning the range offers. It adds more depth and pressure relief than the 2" and is a good choice for anyone with joint sensitivity at the hips or shoulders.
Dunlop vs Talalay: Which Is Right for You?
Dunlop is denser and more supportive. Talalay is lighter and more buoyant. Both work for side and back sleepers, but they feel different under the body. Dunlop gives you more pushback, which suits sleepers who need support restored or want a firmer layer on top of a softer mattress. Talalay gives you more cushioning with a springier surface response, which suits sleepers who want pressure relief without the firmness.
Organic certification is another difference. If that matters to you, Dunlop is the only option with GOLS certification. Talalay toppers are Oeko-Tex certified, which tests for harmful substances, but organic certification is not available for Talalay latex.
Stomach sleepers should choose Dunlop Firm. Talalay toppers are not suitable for stomach sleeping. If you are not sure which direction to go, visiting our Delta showroom lets you feel both side by side before ordering.
FAQ
What is the difference between Dunlop and Talalay latex toppers?
Dunlop and Talalay are made through different manufacturing processes, and they feel noticeably different. Dunlop latex is poured and baked in a single stage, producing a denser, more supportive material. Talalay goes through a vacuum and flash-freeze stage after pouring, which creates a lighter, more open structure with a springier surface feel. In a topper, Dunlop adds support and firmness; Talalay adds cushioning and buoyancy. The Dunlop toppers are available in Soft, Medium, and Firm. The Talalay toppers come in Soft only. If you are unsure which suits you better, you are welcome to visit our Delta showroom and feel both before ordering.
What is the difference between Original Talalay and Natural Talalay?
Both are Talalay latex and both carry Oeko-Tex certification, which tests for harmful substances. The
difference is in latex composition. Natural Talalay contains no synthetic latex: it is made entirely from natural rubber. Original Talalay includes a synthetic component in its blend. Neither is GOLS certified, since GOLS certification is only available for Dunlop latex. In practice, both Talalay options feel
similar. If avoiding synthetic latex content is a priority, Natural Talalay is the right choice. If organic certification matters to you, look at the Organic Dunlop toppers instead.
How do I choose between a 2" and a 3" topper?
A 2" topper makes a real difference to how your mattress feels and is enough for most people. It takes
the edge off a surface that is too firm, adds a cushioning layer to a mattress that has softened unevenly, or shifts the feel in a new direction. A 3" topper makes a more significant change: it adds more depth, more pressure relief, and is the better option for side sleepers with joint sensitivity or
for anyone whose mattress needs a more meaningful correction. The 3" Organic Dunlop is also the best-value option in the Dunlop line. When in doubt, consider how much you want your sleep surface to change.
Can I visit the showroom to compare toppers before ordering?
Yes. Our showroom at 730 Chester Road in Delta, BC is set up for fittings, and we keep toppers available so you can feel the difference between Dunlop and Talalay, or between a 2" and a
3". An in-person visit is the most reliable way to decide. Weekday and Saturday appointments are available. Contact us at 604-731-8226 or info@sleepmajestic.com to arrange a time or ask questions before you come in. Explore our latex mattress toppers to see the full range before your visit.
Does latex have an odour?
Yes, latex has a natural odour. It's not bothersome to most people as it's not a chemical smell, but those with smell sensitives are more likely to notice something. We can air our the components at our factory upon requests. We recommend 2-3 weeks on these cases. Additionally, shredded latex pillows have the strongest odour of all latex products.
