Hybrid Latex Mattresses

A hybrid mattress combines a pocket coil support base with a latex comfort layer. The pocket coils provide a more traditional feel, with individually wrapped springs that respond independently to movement and weight. The latex layer on top delivers pressure relief and a natural sleep surface. Sleep Majestic hybrids use a 7-inch calibre edge pocket coil base with Dunlop or Talalay latex comfort layers. If you prefer the feel of a traditional mattress but want natural materials on top, a hybrid is worth considering.

The Essential Hybrid is a 9-inch mattress with a single 2-inch Dunlop latex comfort layer over the pocket coil base, available in Soft, Medium, and Firm. It's the more straightforward option for customers who want a natural hybrid without the configuration decisions. The DIY Hybrid is an 11-inch mattress with a 4-inch latex layer made up of a 2-inch comfort layer and a 2-inch transition layer. It
offers more Dunlop and Talalay configuration options and more firmness combinations, making it the better choice for customers who want more control over the final feel.

Yes. Side and back sleepers generally do well on both models. The latex comfort layer provides the pressure relief that side sleepers need at the shoulders and hips, while the pocket coil base keeps the body supported without excessive sinkage. The DIY Hybrid with a Talalay comfort layer is particularly well suited to side and back sleepers who want a lighter, more buoyant surface feel. For stomach sleepers, a Firm comfort layer in either model is a better fit.

Most of our mattresses include a 180-day layer exchange on comfort layers that are 3 inches or under. If the firmness isn't right after you've slept on it, we can swap the comfort layer for a different firmness. There's a price difference if the new layer costs more, and we'll calculate that for you when you're ready. Layer exchanges apply to the 8-inch, 10-inch, and all hybrid models. They do not apply to the 6-inch mattress, which is a single-layer design. The product pages note which models include this.

It's very important for the mattress to be well supported. We recommend slat spacing no wider than 2.5" inches for 100% latex mattresses and 3" for Hybrid Latex Mattresses. As a rule of thumb, you want to see more support than air. Almost all foundations can be combined with a coir bunkie board placed on top, which will give the mattress the firm, even surface it needs. The 8-inch, 10-inch, and DIY mattresses are not recommended for bunk beds due to their overall thickness. Mattress foundations are rarely made to withstand and support latex.
