Natural Latex Pillows, Two Ways
Every pillow here is built from latex, not synthetic fill. There are two options: a shredded Dunlop pillow with GOLS-certified organic latex, and a solid Talalay pillow with a moulded core.
The Shredded Dunlop Latex Pillow is filled with loose shredded organic Dunlop latex in an organic cotton cover. Because the fill moves with you, the pillow is adjustable and works for a range of sleeping positions. Side sleepers and back sleepers tend to do well with it. The Dunlop latex is GOLS-certified and sourced from India, the same material used in our latex mattresses and toppers.
The Solid Talalay Latex Pillow is a single moulded core of Talalay latex in an organic cotton cover. Talalay has a lighter, more buoyant feel than Dunlop, and in a solid core that translates to consistent cushioning with a springy surface response. It is a good fit for back sleepers and side sleepers who prefer a pillow with a stable, uniform feel rather than adjustable fill.
Both pillows are handmade in Delta, BC, where we have been making natural sleep products since 1985. They ship across Canada, typically leaving within one to two weeks of your order. Metro Vancouver customers can also pick up at the showroom or arrange local delivery.
What Is the Difference Between Dunlop and Talalay Latex?
Dunlop is the original latex manufacturing process: liquid rubber is poured into a mould, vulcanised, and set in a single stage. The result is a denser, more supportive material. It is the only type of latex with commercially available GOLS certification for organic content, which is why the shredded fill in the Dunlop pillow carries that credential.
Talalay uses a different process: the liquid rubber is poured into a partial mould, vacuum-expanded, then flash-frozen before vulcanising. That sequence creates a lighter, more open cell structure with a buoyant, springy feel. Talalay is not GOLS-certified, but the Talalay used in the Solid Talalay Pillow is certified Oeko-Tex, confirming it meets independent safety and emissions standards.
For pillows, the manufacturing difference translates to a feel difference. Shredded Dunlop fill settles and moulds around your head and neck. Solid Talalay holds its shape and pushes back with a consistent, resilient surface. Neither is better in absolute terms: the right choice depends on how you sleep and what kind of support you are looking for.
Shredded vs Solid: Which Fill Works for You?
Shredded fill pillows adapt more readily to movement. If you shift positions during the night or want to add and remove fill to dial in the height, the Shredded Dunlop Pillow gives you that flexibility. It works well for side sleepers who need a lofted fill that follows the curve of the neck and for back sleepers who want a pillow that compresses slightly under the head without losing support at the shoulders.
A solid core pillow stays put. The Solid Talalay Pillow has a uniform feel from edge to edge and does not shift or compress unevenly over the course of the night. That consistency suits back sleepers who want predictable support and side sleepers who prefer a stable surface rather than a fill that
moves around them. Because Talalay is lighter than Dunlop, the solid core does not feel heavy or stiff despite being a single piece.
What Makes These Pillows Different from a Standard Pillow?
Conventional pillows are typically filled with polyester fill, memory foam, or a blend of synthetic materials. Over time, synthetic fill compresses, clumps, and needs to be replaced. Latex, by contrast, is resilient: it returns to its original shape after compression. The natural rubber structure that gives latex its durability in mattresses and toppers works the same way in a pillow.
Both pillows are made without poly foam and without synthetic fillers. The covers are organic cotton. For customers who have already chosen a natural or organic mattress, these pillows are a consistent extension of that choice.
FAQ
What is the difference between the Shredded Dunlop and Solid Talalay pillows?
The Shredded Dunlop Pillow is filled with loose organic Dunlop latex, which moves with you and can be adjusted for loft. The Solid Talalay Pillow is a single moulded core with a consistent, springy feel that holds its shape through the night. Dunlop is denser and GOLS-certified organic. Talalay
is lighter and more buoyant, certified Oeko-Tex. If you want adjustability, the Shredded Dunlop is a better fit. If you prefer a stable, uniform surface, the Solid Talalay is worth considering. Both are available on the product pages with more detail on construction and feel.
Are these latex pillows adjustable?
The Shredded Dunlop Latex Pillow is adjustable: you can add or remove fill through the zippered opening to set the loft to your preference. This makes it easier to dial in the right height for your sleeping position and shoulder width. The Solid Talalay Latex Pillow is not adjustable. It is a
single moulded core with a fixed profile, suited to sleepers who want consistent support without needing to customise. If adjustability is a priority, the Shredded Dunlop Pillow is the one to choose.
Are these pillows made with organic materials?
The Shredded Dunlop Latex Pillow uses GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex fill sourced from India, with an organic cotton cover. GOLS is the leading third-party organic certification for latex. The Solid Talalay Latex Pillow uses Talalay latex certified Oeko-Tex, which verifies the material meets
independent safety and emissions standards. Talalay is not GOLS-certified, but the Oeko-Tex certification confirms it has been tested and cleared of harmful substances. Both pillows come with an organic cotton cover and contain no poly foam.
What sleeping positions are latex pillows suited to?
Both pillows work well for side sleepers and back sleepers. Side sleepers generally benefit from a higher loft to keep the spine aligned across the shoulders, which is where the adjustable fill of the Shredded Dunlop Pillow is useful. Back sleepers tend to do well with either option: the shredded fill compresses slightly under the head, while the solid Talalay core provides a stable, supportive surface. Stomach sleepers are not well served by most latex pillows, as the loft is typically too high for that position.
Does latex have an odour?
Yes, latex has a natural odour. It's not bothersome to most people as it's not a chemical smell, but those with smell sensitives are more likely to notice something. We can air our the components at our factory upon requests. We recommend 2-3 weeks on these cases. Additionally, shredded latex pillows have the strongest odour of all latex products.
