Choose Your Firmness. Change It If You Need To.
Every mattress on this page is built in exchangeable latex layers. When you order, you choose the firmness configuration that suits how you sleep. If that configuration turns out not to be quite right, you can swap the top layers within 180 days and dial it in. That is what modular means here: not a fixed product, but a starting point.
We have been building mattresses this way in Delta, BC since 1985. Each one is handmade to order in our factory using GOLS-certified organic Dunlop latex, natural Talalay latex, or a combination of both. The layers are wrapped in individual organic cotton sleeves and housed in a zippered Tencel cover, so swapping is straightforward.
The 8-inch mattress is a three-layer build on a multi-layer Dunlop base with a 2-inch comfort layer on
top. The 10-inch adds a 2-inch transition layer between the base and comfort layers, which softens the shift from the firm core to the top surface. Both come with a choice of Soft, Medium, or Firm comfort layers in Dunlop or Talalay. The DIY Dunlop Talalay pairing lets you combine a Talalay base with a Dunlop comfort layer, or build the other direction, for a more specific feel than either material alone.
Hybrid options are also part of this range. The Essential Hybrid and the DIY Hybrid pair a 7-inch pocket coil base with latex comfort layers. The pocket coil provides a more traditional feel for people who are not ready to move fully to latex, while the latex top layers remain fully exchangeable within the same 180-day window.
How the Layer Exchange Works
Within 180 days of delivery, you can return any comfort layer that is 3 inches or thinner and exchange it for a different firmness or material. The cost is the price difference between what you have and what you are exchanging to, plus a restocking fee. The layer comes back in its organic cotton sleeve using the same packaging the mattress arrived in.
The exchange window is designed to give you enough time to know whether your configuration is genuinely working. A few weeks is usually enough to tell. If it is not right, reach out to Tyson directly at the Delta showroom or by email and we will sort it from there.
Dunlop, Talalay, or Both
Dunlop is the original latex manufacturing process: liquid rubber poured and baked in a single stage. The result is a dense, supportive latex with a consistent feel from top to bottom. It is available in GOLS-certified organic form across all comfort and base layer options in this range.
Talalay uses a different process that produces a lighter, more buoyant latex. It has a springier surface
response and tends to feel less firm at the same ILD than Dunlop. The DIY Dunlop Talalay mattress lets you combine a Talalay base with a Dunlop comfort layer, or pair a Dunlop base with a Talalay comfort layer, depending on what kind of feel you are after. If you are not sure which direction to go, a
showroom fitting in Delta can help clarify it.

FAQ
What does a modular mattress mean?
A modular mattress is one where the internal layers can be separated, removed, and replaced without replacing the whole mattress. On every mattress in this range, the comfort layer sits in its own organic cotton sleeve inside a zippered Tencel cover. That design is what makes layer exchanges possible. If the firmness you chose at the time of purchase turns out not to be right for how you sleep, you can exchange it within 180 days rather than starting over with a new mattress. It is a straightforward way to get the feel dialled in without committing permanently to a single configuration.
Which mattresses include a layer exchange?
Every mattress on this page includes a 180-day layer exchange on comfort layers that are 3 inches or
thinner. That covers the 8-inch and 10-inch Organic Latex Mattresses, the DIY Dunlop Talalay, the Essential Hybrid, and the DIY Hybrid. The 6-inch single-slab mattress does not include a layer exchange because it is a single piece of latex with no separable layers. If you want the flexibility of a layer exchange, any of the products on this page qualify.
How do I know which firmness to choose?
Side sleepers generally do better with a softer comfort layer, which takes pressure off the hips and
shoulders. Back sleepers usually want Medium or Firm depending on their build. Stomach sleepers tend to need Firm or Extra-Firm for adequate support. Combination sleepers often land in the Medium range as a compromise. These are starting points, not rules. If you are unsure, a showroom fitting in Delta gives you a chance to try different configurations before ordering.
What is the difference between the 8-inch, 10-inch and DIY mattresses?
All are 100% latex builds with exchangeable comfort layers. The 8" mattress is made from all 2" layers of Organic Dunlop Latex, the 10" is made from two 2" layers over a solid 6" core or Organic Dunlop Latex and the DIY is made from your choice of Dunlop and Talalay 6" cores and 2 or 3" comfort layers.
Does latex have an odour?
Yes, latex has a natural odour. It's not bothersome to most people as it's not a chemical smell, but those with smell sensitives are more likely to notice something. We can air our the components at our factory upon requests. We recommend 2-3 weeks on these cases. Additionally, shredded latex pillows have the strongest odour of all latex products.
